# MiniMax H3 for AI video: a practical model and prompt guide Publisher: AI Effects Video HTML source: https://aieffectsvideo.com/hub/minimax-h3 Canonical HTML: https://aieffectsvideo.com/hub/minimax-h3 Understand MiniMax H3’s published capabilities, access checks and prompt planning. Original shot briefs, review criteria and a clear route to fixed photo effects. Published: 2026-10-26 Updated: 2026-10-26 ## What MiniMax H3 is, with the evidence kept visible MiniMax introduced H3 on July 31, 2026 and published an open-source announcement on August 3. The publisher describes a multimodal video system accepting text, images, video and audio, with native sound. These are manufacturer statements, reviewed on October 26, not results of an independent test by AI Effects Video. The open-source specification lists 4–15-second outputs. Its default shorter side is 768 pixels, with a separate regeneration path for 2K. A hosted product can expose different options. Check the model variant and interface you are actually using before treating a launch headline as a setting you can select. A hosted creator interface, an API endpoint and a local model package are different products even when the displayed model name matches. Confirm the version, region, accepted file types, output settings and usage terms in that interface. A download announcement does not establish that every account can use every capability immediately. Open weights do not automatically mean unrestricted commercial use or zero operating cost. Read the license attached to the selected release, any model-card restrictions and the terms of the service that will process your media. For local use, inspect the actual deployment requirements before renting hardware. This guide does not provide a hardware sizing claim or a tested installation recipe. If you need an API, verify its model identifier, authentication, media upload rules and billing in the provider’s current documentation. The prose prompts below are creative briefs, not request bodies or verified API syntax. Do not paste an API key into a prompt, a public issue or a screenshot. AI Effects Video does not need your third-party credentials. ## Build the shot brief in layers Start with the single event that must happen: a subject enters, an object changes state or a camera reveals a scene. Then specify the initial composition and the final readable moment. Add one camera move and a simple sound intention. Finish by stating the details that must remain stable, such as clothing, object proportions or the location of a sign. Separate subject movement from camera movement. “The person walks toward a locked camera” asks for a different image sequence from “the person stands while the camera moves forward.” If both move, describe their relationship. A long list of cinematic adjectives cannot resolve a contradictory physical instruction. Use references for a defined purpose rather than attaching every image in a folder. Decide which file supplies the subject, which supplies the scene and which demonstrates movement. Check the interface’s supported reference controls and naming rules. The model understanding multimodal context is not a guarantee that an unlabeled bundle will express your intended hierarchy. | Brief layer | Write this | Review this | | --- | --- | --- | | Subject | One clear subject and starting pose | Identity, count and proportions | | Action | One visible change with a clear finish | Causality and completion | | Camera | A stable frame or a deliberate single move | Framing, horizon and unwanted cuts | | Sound | A useful ambience or one short line | Timing and unwanted speech | | Constraints | A few important details to preserve | Continuity through the final frame | ## Prompt pattern: a controlled product reveal The following is an original, untested planning example. It does not reproduce a publisher demo or guarantee the result. Adapt its duration and references to the settings your chosen interface actually offers. Use a product you own or have permission to depict, and avoid relying on generated small print for mandatory product information. Why this structure helps review: the mug is the stable subject, steam is the main action and the camera has one job. If the handle changes shape, you can isolate a continuity failure. If the camera orbits despite a forward-move instruction, you can isolate a camera-following failure. Those are more useful notes than “make it more cinematic.” ```text One continuous tabletop shot of a plain ceramic mug beside a folded linen cloth. Begin at a three-quarter angle. A thin curl of steam rises while the camera makes a slow, small push toward the rim. Preserve the mug handle, cloth position and warm side lighting. Quiet room tone, no speech. End with the mug fully in frame; no cut or new object. ``` ## Prompt pattern: one person, one readable movement For a person reference, use an adult who has agreed to the use and a clear image that matches the intended framing. Ask for a simple action before combining dancing, wardrobe changes and a moving camera. If the input only shows a head, an instruction requiring a full-body turn leaves many more details for the system to invent. Evaluate identity separately from action. A result can follow the movement while changing a face, or preserve the face while losing the movement. Record both. When the first useful pass is close, change one instruction rather than rewriting the entire brief and losing the ability to explain why the next result differed. ```text A single adult in a dark jacket stands at the entrance of a softly lit lobby. Keep the camera still at waist-up height. The person looks toward the doorway, turns their head toward the camera and gives one brief relaxed smile. Preserve jacket color, facial proportions and the doorway geometry. Natural room ambience, no dialogue. One continuous shot. ``` ## Using a video or sound reference deliberately Decide whether a reference is an instruction about motion, composition, identity or sound. Write that role in plain language using the reference controls available in the chosen product. Do not assume the exact notation from another vendor will work. If an interface does not support the reference type you need, do not write a prompt that implies it does. For motion transfer, describe the portion you want to preserve: the direction of a turn, the timing of a reveal or the pace of a camera move. Keep the desired background and subject identity separate. A reference can contain unwanted lighting, cuts or extra people; call out the few properties that matter instead of asking to copy the entire clip. For sound, begin with ambience and timing rather than an exact song or celebrity voice. The existence of audio generation does not grant music or voice rights. Keep critical spoken information in a separate review step and inspect the actual exported file, including the beginning and end, for unexpected speech or truncation. ## A review sheet for useful experiments Record the provider, model variant, date, aspect ratio, duration setting, reference files you supplied and the exact prompt. Keep private media in your own project storage rather than in a public log. Preserve failed attempts in the review count; selecting only one attractive result hides the actual effort needed to obtain it. Watch once for the story, again for continuity and once more with sound. Inspect the first and last frames, hands or object edges, the direction of shadows and the relationship between movement and audio. Judge whether the requested action finishes inside the clip. A visually attractive fragment can still fail the brief. Use a simple scorecard: action completed, subject stable, camera correct, audio usable and export suitable. Add a short reason to each failure. This is a proposed review method, not a report that we generated or benchmarked H3. If an output is unsuitable, simplify the brief before adding more instructions or paying for another long batch. ## Compare cost per usable result A per-second or per-credit headline is only one input. Check the selected model, output settings, any regeneration step and the charge for unsuccessful requests under the provider’s terms. Prices and account eligibility can change, so this article does not freeze a quote or invent a free allowance. For your own experiment, divide total generation and editing spend by the number of usable finished clips. Keep the cost of discarded attempts and any local compute separate enough to explain the result. Include your review time when deciding whether open-ended prompting is a good fit for a small personal effect. ## When a fixed effect is the shorter route Choose a general model when designing the sequence is part of your work. Choose a fixed effect when you already like a reference scene and want to replace its labeled photo roles. The decisions are different: one begins with a creative brief; the other begins with a published scene, its complete reference and its required inputs. AI Effects Video sells one finished MP4 per purchase through its existing photo-template workflow. Select a scene, supply the required permitted photos, review the available quality and framing, and continue to checkout. The complete reference determines that template’s duration. A sample is a guide to composition and action, not a promise of identical motion, likeness or sound. These model articles are educational. We do not offer a MiniMax H3 or Seedance 2.5 model selector, open prompt playground or API here, and we do not identify either model as the engine behind a paid effect. A provider’s advertised resolution, clip length or access plan does not become a deliverable on this site. Read the selected template and order summary for what you are buying. After confirmed payment, orders enter manual preparation under the existing service. No fixed turnaround is promised. Keep the private order link or use the order list in the same browser, and follow the download deadline shown when the video is ready. Check the refund policy before purchase if a specific likeness, soundtrack or delivery time is essential. This article does not make that claim. The purchasable product here is the existing fixed-effect photo workflow, with its own template reference and order summary. Are these tested H3 prompts? No. They are original planning examples and review methods. We have not submitted generation jobs or measured a success rate for this article. Does open source make every commercial use allowed? Check the actual release license and the service terms. The announcement alone does not answer every licensing or access question. Which model should I choose? Match the current access path and required controls to your brief, then compare actual results under the same conditions.
